These wonderful Wood Magnets are crafted right here in our shop in Reedsport, Oregon out of Myrtlewood.
Each magnet is made from myrtlewood approximately 2 1/2 inch diameter
They are finished with an environmentally friendly waterborne lacquer.
Oregon Myrtlewood possesses a wide variety of beautiful colors and grain patterns and is noted by many as being one of the world’s most beautiful woods. The color of the wood is often influenced by the minerals in the soil. The colors range from blond to black with many shades of honey, browns, satiny grays, with reds and greens in between. Often this large variation occurs within the same board and two items made right next to each other may look like completely different pieces of wood once they are cut out. Because of this wide variety of colors and figure, it is difficult to select a piece for a specific “look”, but this makes each piece uniquely Myrtlewood and like a box of chocolates you never know exactly what you’re going to get. Each one is beautiful and will bring you a piece of warmth from the forests of Oregon.
Dimensions
Each magnet is made from a single piece of thinly sliced myrtlewood and is approximately 1/8th inch thick by 2 1/2 inch diameter.
How it’s made
Starting with rough myrtlewood lumber and using a variety of tools and processes, from old school woodworking tools to the latest design technology; we create our uniquely coastal gifts and souvenirs, start to finish, right here in our Reedsport Oregon shop.
The lumber is carefully selected, milled flat, sliced thin, finely sanded, and finished with an environmentally friendly waterborne lacquer.
Then we move on to the computer and engraver where we design, tweak, engrave, redesign, engrave again, and repeat until we end up with a pleasing combination that merges the detailed design with the natural beauty of myrtlewood.
