Description
Have a friend help keep you on track during your reading journey.
These wonderful wood bookmarks feature a small engraving of a friendly bear reading a book, positioned to peek out of the top of your book while it keeps your place.
Dimensions
Each bookmark is made from a single piece of thinly sliced myrtlewood and is approximately 1/16th inch thick, 1 inch wide, and 5 3/4 inches long.
How it’s made
Starting with rough myrtlewood lumber and using a variety of tools and processes, from old school woodworking tools to the latest design technology; we create our uniquely coastal gifts and souvenirs, start to finish, right here in our Reedsport Oregon shop.
The lumber is carefully selected, milled flat, sliced thin, finely sanded, and finished with an environmentally friendly waterborne lacquer.
Then we move on to the computer and engraver where we design, tweak, engrave, redesign, engrave again, and repeat until we end up with a pleasing combination that merges the detailed design with the natural beauty of myrtlewood.
Variation of Color and grain
Oregon Myrtlewood possesses a wide variety of beautiful colors and grain patterns and is noted by many as being one of the world’s most beautiful woods. The colors range from blond to black with many shades of honey, browns, reds, greens, and satiny grays in between. Often this large variation occurs within the same board. Because of this wide variety of colors and figure, it is difficult to select a piece for a specific “look”, but this makes each piece uniquely Myrtlewood and like a box of chocolates you never know exactly what you’re going to get. Each one is beautiful and will bring you a bit of nature from the forests of Oregon.
